This month marks Kroma’s 4th birthday - a milestone that fills me with both gratitude and perspective.
Kroma started as a seed of an idea seven years ago, born from my 15+ year passion for superfoods and wellness. That obsession led me to create Beaming, the first superfood café in the country - a dream that introduced me to the power of taking control of your health by becoming more mindful of what you eat. Those experiences, along with countless lessons, heartbreaks, and breakthroughs, set the stage for Kroma.
When you set out to bring a vision to life, so many things have to go right—and just as many will not go as planned. This journey has been an incredible teacher, and as I reflect on where we are today, I want to share the most meaningful lessons these years have taught me—about business, about life, and about staying grounded when the world feels anything but.
1. The Freedom of Non-Attachment
The LA fires were a defining moment in my life. In a single day, I lost everything—my home, belongings, and even every photo and scrapbook from my childhood. It was devastating. But it was also the ultimate teacher in impermanence. I realized how much of our identity is tied to “stuff.” The truth? None of it defines us. Today, I live with a deep sense of gratitude for what I have in this moment, because tomorrow is never guaranteed. That perspective has given me incredible freedom.
2. It’s Okay to Not Be Okay (So You Can Be Okay)
For most of my life, I’ve been seen as the “strong one”—the fixer, the problem-solver, the person who can handle anything. But strength can be exhausting. After the fires, I had to allow myself to grieve—to be vulnerable—to admit I wasn’t okay. That pause, as uncomfortable as it was, became a turning point. It reminded me that true resilience comes not from avoiding pain, but from allowing yourself to feel it, so you can eventually move through it. If you’ve ever felt the pressure to “hold it all together,” maybe this resonates with you.
3. The Power of Surrender
Let’s be real, “surrendering” or trusting the unknown, is often easier said then done. We all want to feel like we have control and yet, so often, the best outcomes come when we stop trying to force an outcome or control every situation. This past year especially taught me the beauty of surrender. I often picture a bird soaring through the sky, wings wide, using the wind to its advantage instead of fighting against it. That’s what surrender feels like—letting life guide you instead of forcing outcomes. Whenever I catch myself gripping too tightly, I return to that image. It works.
4. Allow People to Show Up for You
This one was hard for me. I’ve always prided myself on independence. But if I am totally honest, I didn’t believe people would show up for me. Resonate for anyone? But if this past year has taught me anything, it’s that letting people show up for you doesn’t make you weak—it makes you stronger. Whether it was leaning on friends during the hardest seasons of my personal life or asking my team to carry the torch when I couldn’t, I’ve learned that allowing others to show up for you is one of the most beautiful forms of connection.
5. Celebrate the Wins
I have been guilty of moving on to the next project or goal (whether personal or professional) without pausing to acknowledge what’s been accomplished. Sound familiar? But here’s the truth: if you don’t take time to celebrate the small victories, you miss the joy of the journey. Over the years, I’ve tried to do this more…whether it’s a celebratory dinner with my team, a moment of quiet to reflect on what was achieved or simply saying “Wow, we did that” and really taking it in. I promise, you (always) have time to celebrate.
6. Less Truly Is More
This applies to everything…your schedule, your to-do list, your closet, even your diet. We live in a culture that glorifies “more,” but I am learning (especially post LA fires), that simplicity has given me the most peace. Whether it’s buying less clothes, collecting fewer things, saying no to doing more things or simplifying which supplements I take, less really is more.
7. Health IS Your Greatest Asset
No matter how busy I am or where I am in the world, exercise and healthy eating are non-negotiables. They’re what keep me grounded, energized, and capable of showing up fully - for my team, my kids, my friends, and for myself. We all know this intellectually, but when life gets crazy, the first thing to go is often our health. Don’t let it. Health is your greatest asset. Are you ready to make taking care of yourself one of your top non-negotiables? I promise you will never regret that you took time to exercise or eat a little healthier. Never.
8. Your Energy Is Contagious
I’ve always been hyper-aware of the energy I bring into a room. It matters. How you show up has the power to shift everything. Whether its your mood, a meeting, relationships or honestly any outcome. Your energy impacts everything and everyone around you. Want to change the world and how you feel? Start with your own energy. Smile with your eyes and see what happens.
9. Create the Life You Want
People often say, “You’re so lucky.” My answer? This isn’t luck. This is intentional design—choosing what matters, saying no to what doesn’t, and having the courage to bet on yourself. You have more power than you think to create the life you want.
As we celebrate Kroma’s 4th birthday, I just want to say thank you—for being here, for believing in us, and for allowing us to be a part of your wellness journey. My hope is that these lessons resonate with you, maybe even serve as a gentle reminder that life isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence, persistence, and finding joy in the process.
Cheers to where we have all been and to all that’s ahead.
With love and gratitude,
Lisa
